This is in an earlier post but the weld repairs here had no chance of working as a long term repair, trying to rivet weld a 65 year old seam without being able to clean or prep it doesn’t end in a nice functional piece.


Carefully cutting the old out and making a hole you can work with is the key to getting a good fit, I thought I had photos of the cutout hole but no, I’ll put them up later, here is the patch fitted to the hole.


Here is the patch with its perimeter holes drilled, a few more to come in the center and a whole ring around the outside edge of the hole.


From the riveters view this looks like a piece of cake, but look at what the bucking fool on the other side is dealing with.


Well actually the clecos with be staggered so both sides can have room to work, the adhesive sealer makes bucking these a challenge, it’s just like the stem of the rivet is lubricated and the bucking bar wants to slide around and bend the rivets.

Sounds like one of the boast the Kibler and Aldridge boys used to be the crap out of while testing the boats...
