not a happy camper today, my worst fears happenned.......up at 5 this morn with an x-acto knife......seperating the masking and trying to keep a clean edge........i managed to salvalge the best i could..........i believe it had somethin to do with my last wash.....the masking soaked in some alcohol, my fault, rushing........paitence of a road runner........didn't let it dry long enough.......

i have coated a couple of them, and probably this one as well........my understansing is its not neccasary, just more so for future repairs to any scratches in the paint.......but it is recomended from what i gather to clear coat the fuel tanks, because of the increased exposure to gasoline on the vynal........

Or, instead of clear, use the other color as a seal on your masking.

One trick I've used to make the masked edge crisp is to shoot a coat of clear along the mask first. If that bleeds you won't see it, and it seals things up for the color coats that follow.

Looking good so far. It'll be a thing of beauty I'm sure.

no kiddin...........i gotta wonder if at the factory, Johnson had a jig that masked the white to spray the bronze.........i am believing, that the cream color was self etching, first step..........then a jig to cover the different yrs too spray the bronze...........being production line, they had to have somethin to streamline the process............china wasn't invented yet..........

That's why I'm sticking to Mercs... only 2 colors and they're not on the same part.

guess it all depends on how far your going with the polish......what ever you do to one spot, be prepared to do the rest of it, or you will end up with blotches, i am not the best to ask, i only scrubb mine with scotch brite, i prefer the natural patine.......the boys who polish would be your best bet for details on where to go........
