As far as your paint fume problem maybe with the windows make a small spray booth with a tarp and use fan to pull out the fumes . Found this helpful on my last project building a Nascar go cart.
I agree waiting for paint to dry is like waiting on beer to get ice cold, Hate it . I'm working on the hull now and have lots of fine scratches to remove any ideas can I sand the surface and then polish it out.

not on the last 3, just a good complete sanding with 120grit, to ensure what is left of the original paint is still well bonded.........2 reasons, wether i am right or wrong, just my opinion........first, i have found the original white coat the factory sprayed is as good if not better than what we have today for etching to the aluminum, second, i stripped my first cowl to bare aluminum and found i also removed what the factory had already done to clean up the cowl for paint........the original casting is not paint ready by any means, and just as much or more work was needed to restore it for paint.......
after the 120 grit, i give it a good spray of etching primer, then resand with 150 grit, the resanding reveals all the dips and dings that need to be spot puttied......the glazing putty wont stick to bare aluminium, priming it first should be done............just my back woods approach........cheers

Jb, definatly a Canadian thing, next motor could have a chest hair, sucks getteing old.......molting, spring is around the corner...shedding time
Trey.......no blasting.....all elbow grease, sanded by hand....there are more hrs doing the cowl than the whole lower and mid sections combined.................my preference........hands on.........i am still learning myself...........it aint perfect, but from what i have seen, neither was factory............just sayin

Do you do your own media blasting? What media do you have them blasted with?

Yeah really!!! The barn has lots of room but it's 14 degrees out there in the boat shop. :S
